Items of Hope

The foster care system is a term one probably has heard before and in many ways, foster parents are an essential part of the system. When a child’s birthparent’s rights are terminated, they are placed in the foster system with a family that can care for them. When these kids and teens come to live with their foster parents, they come with the bare minimum, in fact often only carrying the clothes on their backs.

That is where Michigan Foster Care Closet comes in. This non-profit operates on a 100% volunteer basis and has a goal to support the difficult transition of kids into their foster homes. In order to make the process and experience better for the child, Michigan Foster Care Closet (MFCC) provides: … “clothing, shoes, toys, linens, nursery furniture, strollers, car seats, school supplies, hygiene products, safety equipment, etc, to our local foster children and their families FREE of charge.”

In the US, there are approximately 500,000 children and teens in the foster care system. In Michigan alone, there are around 12,000 – 16,000 children in the system due to no fault of their own. Some of these kids have gone through extremely difficult circumstances such as violence, suicide, addiction in the family, terminal illness, abuse, and family incarceration. We want to step in and help MFCC by supporting its mission in helping the transition of young ones in foster care. Doing so, we hope to give them a sense of belonging and empowerment.

You can take part in helping foster children too because each time you recommend a friend, family member, or co-worker to us for a no-obligation insurance quote or consultation, we donate $10 ON YOUR BEHALF to MFCC! What do you say? Are you ready to impact change?
